A Message From the Principal
As our students continue to learn, explore and develop their talents, several of our youngsters have been recognized for their outstanding accomplishments. Kudos to Brianna Renneisen as she has been selected to perform in the Long Island String Festival Association Concert in March. Congratulations to the following students who were selected to perform in the All-County Elementary Chorus Festival; Olivia Pereira Emily Kassimatis and Cecelia Rodriguez. Also, we are happy to announce that fifth grader Meghan Lazzarini's drawing was selected to be showcased during a year-long art exhibit at the Levittown Memorial Educational Center.
Our youngsters are encouraged to explore and nurture their talents through their participation in the clubs available at Lee Road. Several students are learning strategy and competing in our morning Chess club while others are honing their theatrical talents while rehearsing for our upcoming Peter Pan Musical. Our fifth grade youngsters are having"mucho fun" while participating in our Spanish Club and our third and fourth grade students are gaining a greater awareness of how to self-regulate their thoughts and behaviors during their Mindfulness Club meetings. Several additional clubs are planned for the second half of the year including: Guitar, Get-A-Voice and a Coding Club.
The Lee Road Community Service Committee has orchestrated several worthwhile projects intended to promote service learning, strengthen our sense of community, and help our youngsters learn the value of helping others who are less fortunate. Among the recent projects were a Coats For a Cause Campaign, Jump Rope for Heart Fundraiser, and our Annual John Theissen Toys for Sick Children Toy Drive. In addition, our PTA organized a highly successful Blood Drive run by the New York Blood Center. A special thanks to our student "little doctor" volunteers as well as our staff and parent donors.
As you are aware, the theme for our Get-A-Voice Program this year is "Teamwork." Each month, our students are engaged in classroom activities that serve to reinforce the ideals of our program. Many of our students and families have joined us in taking the GAV Pledge. Once again, our goal is to have 100% participation from our school community. We are almost there so... if you have not done so already, please consider taking the pledge with your family and return the card to your child's teacher. Additional cards are available if needed.
If you have any questions, suggestions or concerns regarding our school or your child's learning, please feel free to contact me.
