A Message From the Principal
Finally, the warmer weather is upon us! As we progress toward the end of the year, we recently took the time to meet with our youngsters to review expectations in our lunchroom, hallways and buses during our Town Hall Meeting. Our Student Council Co-Presidents also spoke about some of the projects they have been working on; and our Fifth Grade Peer Mediators encouraged the student population to use the Peer Mediation Program to help work out their differences with their classmates. Several students at each grade level were also recognized for their Kindness, Citizenship and Leadership!
We recently held our fourth annual March Madness Math Fluency Tournament. Champions were crowned in each classroom and an exciting tournament style assembly was held with our third through fifth graders. Our third grade champ was Robert Brisette, our fourth grade winner was Megan Lazzarini and Megan Duffy was crowned 5th grade champion. A special thanks to our Academic Intervention Specialist, Ms. Jessica Feit, for organizing this fun event!
Several of our grade 3-5 students took the New York State ELA exams. Several did not. State Math Exams are scheduled for May 2-4. Weather your child has taken the exams or not, all programs and services will continue for all students that are eligible, this year and next. Our state assessments serve the purpose of allowing us to identify students in need of additional academic support. Data from the exams also help us to see areas where additional areas of instruction are needed. For students that didn't take the exams, multiple local assessments are used to determine which students may qualify for additional academic support services.
At this time, several building improvement projects are underway including the installation of a central air cooling station in our All Purpose room, and the addition of a water filtration water fountain outside our gymnasium. A new playground is scheduled for installation sometime this spring. In addition, a special thank you to the Romanelli family for installing a new walkway leading to our flag pole. Their generous donation has definitely enhanced the appearance of the front exterior of our building!
