I hope that this message finds you and your family healthy and happy during our time away from one another. As you heard via a Connect-Ed message that was sent out last week, each building in the district has been developing plans for allowing families the opportunity to pick up their child's personal belongings since the closure of school has been extended to the end of the year.
A plan has been created to allow you a time to come to Northside on Friday, May 29th to retrieve your personal items as well as drop off items belonging to the school. We have been working to ensure that both your family and the school staff are safe as we complete this process. I will need your help and cooperation to assist us in managing this in an effective manner.
All families will be asked to come to Northside to retrieve their items during an allotted time for each classroom in the building. This process was carefully created to make sure that there are no social gatherings and to avoid areas of congestion while on school grounds. All families will retrieve their personal belongings through the classroom window of your child's room. Please note that there are several rooms in which access cannot be made through the window. Alternate areas have been established that can be seen on the retrieval map that is posted for your perusal and assistance. During your scheduled time, I ask that you line up in single file by family, no closer than 6 feet apart in front of your child's classroom. Also, please limit the number of family members that come to the school to avoid too many people in the area at one time. Please wear a mask when on school grounds. Your child's teacher or another staff member will be at the window and call families one at a time to come to the window. You will be handed your belongings, and will be asked to leave school belongings outside the window (Please check your child's Edmodo page by Wednesday, May 20th to see what items need to be returned to the school by grade/classroom). All musical instruments will be collected at a later date during the month of June.
Please contact Mrs. Rutzel, our School Nurse
if you need to pick up any medicine that might have been left at the building. Please
email Mrs. Rutzel
to set up an appointment to meet on May 29th.
Please review the
Classroom Pickup Schedule
to see the time and areas for your classroom pick up. I truly appreciate your patience as we attempt to give back your belongings in an orderly, safe environment. We look forward to seeing you on Friday, May 29th.

Dear Northside Families,
As you have already heard, Governor Cuomo has extended the closure of schools through the end of the school year due to the current pandemic. We are all deeply saddened by this news and hope that everyone is remaining safe during this challenging time. Due to this development, we will be continuing with our remote learning initiative for the remainder of the year. As per my message from last week, I indicated that we will be enhancing our remote learning initiative with opportunities for live video interactions with our teachers. Please read below for details:
For the week of May 4th, your child's teacher will reach out to you through Edmodo for their first live interaction this week. On Wednesday, May 6th, your child's teachers will post through Edmodo, your child's new live video interaction schedule beginning the week of May 11th. This will include special area classes such as Gym, Art, Music, Literacy, and FLES as well. Once posted, please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions. Again, additional and more specific information will be available on Wednesday via Edmodo. In addition,
I ask that you take the time to review a short elementary tutorial presentation,
"Zoom for Elementary School Students."
regarding remote learning live sessions.
We are also developing plans to allow families the opportunity to pick up personal belongings from the school in the near future. That information will be shared with you shortly. Lastly, we are working on a variety of options for our fifth grade Moving Up Ceremony for our graduating fifth graders and should have more specific details in the coming weeks.
Thank you for your continuing support during these trying times. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Please tell your children that we miss them and look forward to seeing their faces during our upcoming live learning interactions!
