The Social Studies and Family Consumer Science Department
The Social Studies Department provides a strong background in the social sciences and encourages good citizenship and an awareness of local, national, and world affairs. Our instructors emphasize learning and practicing the skills of social scientists, particularly the analysis of primary and secondary sources. The purpose of our instruction is to enable our students to become effective participants in a democratic society, and to make informed decisions in a culturally diverse and interdependent world.
All students are required to complete a state-mandated, four-year course of study in Social Studies for high school graduation. In addition, the Social Studies department currently offers many Advanced Placement courses and electives such as Psychology, Sociology, and Current Legal Issues. As a school district, we remain committed to the utilization of Social Studies instruction as an avenue to enrich the lives of our students.
