Levittown Summer Reading Program
Director of ELA, Secondary Reading & Library Services
Director of Elementary Education
Summer is a time for relaxation, spending time with family, and renewing friendships. It is also a time for our students to reflect on the lessons learned throughout the school year and to renew their commitment to be lifelong learners. As each student in Levittown has made individual strides throughout the school year, it is imperative that the students remain on this learning path, especially during the summer months. Current research shows that the average student will lose approximately one month of instruction during the summer break. To avoid this loss, it is imperative that students read over the summer to maintain comprehension and vocabulary skills, as well as to strengthen their ability to analyze information and think critically.
Students entering grades 6-8 have an opportunity to creatively engage with the dynamic website found on the homepages for each school, as well as on the links at the bottom of this page. It is mandatory for all students to read the book assigned to their grade level as this book will become the anchor text for the fall and will be used for lessons and activities when the students return to school on September 2, 2025.
Each student entering grades 6-12 is expected to read the book and/or assignment being assigned to them. The assigned book lists and assignments are outlined below:
