Incoming sixth graders in the Levittown School District got a head start on the new school year during orientations at Jonas E. Salk and Wisdom Lane middle schools on Aug. 25 and 26 designed to help students feel prepared and confident as they transition to middle school.

During the orientations, students heard from principals and staff members about school rules, expectations and helpful advice for navigating their new school environment. Students also had the opportunity to become familiar with their schedules by locating their classrooms and learning where they will go throughout the school day. Students also located their assigned lockers and learned how to use their combination locks, giving them an opportunity to practice before the first day of school. Assistance was provided by sixth graders' older peer Junior Leaders, who led tours throughout the buildings.

The orientations provided students with a chance to ask questions, meet members of the school community and become familiar with their new surroundings.
