Students at East Broadway Elementary School were wowed by members of the Nassau County Sheriff Department's K9 Unit as the skilled dogs showed off their training on June 11.

Sheriff Department Investigators Jose Oritz, Kelly Mankowski and Jason Depascale brought their K9 companions Leni, Link, Cali and Jager to East Broadway to teach students about their role in protecting the community. Each dog skillfully inspected a series of boxes and identified the correct one using their keen sense of smell. The investigators showed how well the dogs are trained to follow commands and the vital help they provide when on the job. As the K9s were walked through the crowd, students watched in amazement. The showcase exemplified the officers' roles upholding the law and keeping students and families safe.
