A Strike For Science: 4th Grade Bowling Field Trip
Summit Lane's 4th graders recently enjoyed an exciting and educational trip to AMF Wantagh Lanes, where bowling turned into a hands-on science lesson. After spending weeks learning about energy in the classroom, students were thrilled to see these concepts come to life in a real-world setting.
In our science unit, we have been focusing on energy - exploring how the speed of an object relates to its energy, what happens to energy when objects collide, and how energy can change from one form to another. Bowling turned out to be the perfect way to wrap up everything we've learned.
As students rolled the bowling balls down the lanes, they observed kinetic energy in action. The harder the ball was pushed, the faster it rolled, and the more energy it had when it reached the pins. When the ball collided with the pins, students noticed another form of energy at work: sound energy, created as the pins crashed to the ground.
This super fun and engaging trip helped students understand that energy is all around us?not just in textbooks or experiments, but even at the bowling alley. It was a memorable way to
reinforce scientific concepts and show that learning can be both meaningful and fun!
