MacArthur Students Attend Middle States Association of American Geographers Conference
MacArthur High School Science Research students, under the direction of Mr. Zausin and Dr. Friedman, attended the Middle States Association of American Geographers (MSAAG) Conference held at Montclair State University's Center for Environmental and Life Sciences (CELS) on November 14-15, 2025. This event brought together researchers, educators, and students from across the region to explore emerging topics in geography, environmental science, and spatial analysis. The MacArthur students were excited to present their work and engage with professionals who are shaping the future of these fields. A team of MacArthur science research student: Sofia Duda, Siena Wells, and Caroline Zegers investigated Levittown Pool District patrons perceptions and uses of pools through surveys, interviews, and autoethnography. Allyssa Aquino examined Filipino LGBTQ perspectives, while Catherine Purirojejananon carried out thematic analysis of various Thai and Japanese BL dramas. Phoebe Zivkovich carried out surveys of adolescents, in high tick prevalence areas, in order to understand their knowledge and awareness of tick borne diseases.
Throughout the conference, students had valuable opportunities to attend workshops and lectures, exchange ideas, discuss their findings, and learn from experienced undergraduate and graduate researchers, as well as professors and professional researchers. The event fostered a collaborative environment where our young scientists could expand their academic networks and gain deeper insight into current research trends. Their participation reflects MacArthur High School's continued commitment to hands-on learning, academic excellence, and preparing students for future success in STEM disciplines.
