During the month of March, fifth grade students visited the Jones Beach Energy and Nature Center where they became "nature innovators." During their visit, students were introduced to the science of "biomimicry," or mimicking nature.

Following this science lesson, the fifth graders met, touched, and learned about some of Long Island's native animals. The students then designed a new object or technology that mimicked the unique features of a selected creature in order to solve a problem. Each group of students presented their "invention" to the class. To conclude this field trip, students visited and explored the interactive museum displays.
