Brillian Soedarmasto, a senior at Division Avenue High School in the Levittown Public School District, holds the top rank for bowling in Nassau County and is on her way to the county's Individual Tournament.
Brillian, the team's captain and a player since 9th grade, holds an average score of 208.8 and a season high score of 278. She was also named among the Top 25 girl bowlers on Long Island by Newsday. Achieving the top spot in the county has been a longstanding goal of Brillian's.
Bowling signifies a bond not only with her teammates but also with her father and brother, with who she recalled practicing numerous times at the local bowling alley. The competitive nature within her family helped to push her during games, Brillian said.
The comradery on the team is also evident, as they shout and cheer in support of one another at every game and practice.
"She's the anchor of our team," Coach Madeline Pagano said. "She's a quiet leader, always poised and confident. You never expect what she has in store."
