Summit Lane Elementary School fourth-graders in Jennifer O'Brien's class recently celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday, also known as Read Across America Day, with a full week of fun Seuss-inspired dress days. The themed days were inspired by some of Dr. Seuss's famous books including
The Sleep Book, Oh, the Places You'll Go, Wacky Wednesday, Fox in Socks
The Cat in the Hat
The class really enjoyed celebrating
Oh, the Places You'll Go, in particular. On this day, students were encouraged to dress as their future profession and could be seen dressed as teachers, veterinarians, authors, gamers, and scientists. They also wore "official" badges, as they were the adults of the day.
In addition, a reading log was sent home to encourage students to read. Students had to read each night and then, at the end of the week, write a brief description of their favorite part of what they read, illustrating it as well. Students who turned in a reading log earned P.R.I.D.E. coupons.
