Salk Students Compete in National Geography Bee
On Friday January 12, 2018, 24 Jonas E. Salk Middle School students competed in the National Geography Bee sponsored by the National Geographic Association. To qualify for the Bee these students received the highest scores on a 35 question multiple choice test that was administered to the entire school. The Geography Bee has been a Salk tradition for over 20 years!
These qualifying students answered questions detailing states, continents, world countries and cultures in traditional Bee format to an audience of the 8th grade. The questions were administered by Samantha McKevitt and Eric Rubin while Robin Insana kept the regulation 15 seconds per question.
The Bee resulted in a final written round between 7th grader Zach Lyons and 8th grader Anna Conway. The tie breaking question askedabout the islands of Japanand Annacorrectly answered to win the bee.
Anna will take an online test consisting of 70 multiple choice questions to qualify toadvance to the state competition held in Albany later this year.
