Fifth-graders throughout Northside Elementary School reflected on their summer reading book "Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library" by Chris Grabenstein on Sept. 26. Guided by teacher Josephine Richiusa, the students explored the different characters in the book and linked them with specific character traits.
Working in small groups around the classroom, the students collaborated to describe each character on their worksheet and find the right character trait. Students were provided with a list of character traits to help them narrow down their choices. After picking a trait for each character in the book, the class went over their answers one by one as Richiusa helped students with properly defining the words. This lesson is one of many that students throughout the district are incorporating into their English curriculum as a way to highlight the students' summer reading books. Teachers are using the books to review important concepts and reading comprehension skills.
