Emily Zhang, a senior from General Douglas MacArthur High School, has recently been recognized as one of 16,000 National Merit semifinalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. She will continue on in the competition for one of 7,600 National Merit Scholarships, collectively worth more than $30 million, that will be offered in the spring of 2021.
More than 1.5 million juniors entered the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Emily is now part of the nationwide pool of semifinalists who represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, including the highest scoring entrants in each state. The next step of the program will be to identify 15,000 finalists out of the 16,000 semifinalists. Congratulations, Emily!
