Dear Parents of Students in Grades 2-4:
Music is everywhere! We hear it at home, in the car, at the mall, on television, in concert halls, and even at sporting events. It is one of the most pervasive experiences in today's world. Studies have indicated that when children play musical instruments in school, they also improve their reading, spelling, and math skills. Most educators agree that this experience can help a child develop better concentration, coordination, communication, and critical thinking skills. Music study is a highly rewarding supplement to the fine education your child already receives here in Levittown Public Schools.
Students will soon be registering for instrumental music for the 2017-2018 school year. To help children select an appropriate instrument and to provide parents with details about our program, we would like to invite you and your child to attend our annual
District Instrumental Music Night.
Elementary school students in grades 3-5 are eligible to participate in our instrumental music program for band and orchestra. Children receive one lesson per week in school and, when proficient enough, may participate in a performance ensemble. Students are required to practice at home for mastery of weekly assignments.
The program will take place at
Division Avenue High School on Monday, May 1, 2017. It will begin at
7pm in the auditorium with introductions and brief musical performances by students from the high school. Immediately following the performances the program will move to the gymnasium for a mini-expo providing an up-close look at the instruments we offer. You will also have an opportunity to meet with students who play the instruments, as well as members of our music faculty.
Registration forms for the 2017-2018 school year will be available for the first time at
District Instrumental Music Night. Since instrument assignments are made based on preference and availability,
attending and registering this evening will certainly increase the chance of your child receiving his or her first choice.
If you are unable to join us on May 1st, please be assured that registration will remain open and forms will be available through the elementary music teachers, as well as the district website, until May 31, 2017. We hope you are able to attend
District Instrumental Music Night and look forward to meeting you and your child.
