Programs Offered at the Gerald R. Claps Career and Technical Center at Levittown Memorial Education Center

Architectural Drafting

This two-year Automotive Technology Program provides students with theory and practical skills pertaining to the automotive industry in areas such as: engine performance, electrical wiring, brakes, and steering and suspension systems.

Automotive Technology

This two-year Automotive Technology Program provides students with theory and practical skills pertaining to the automotive industry, in areas such as engine performance, electrical wiring, brakes, and steering and suspension systems.

Carpentry

For this two-year carpentry course, students receive comprehensive instruction in carpentry and building construction.

Computer Animation

This course will introduce students to concepts behind and principles of traditional animation, motion graphics, broadcast design, DVD authoring, Digital Editing, and 2D/3D animation.

Cosmetology

The Cosmetology program provides theoretical and practical instruction. During the course of the program students will be working to attain the required 1000 hours of training needed to apply for a New York State Board Masters Cosmetology License.

Culinary Arts

This course instructs students in the fundamentals of cooking, baking, and wait staff/hospitality. Students learn culinary mathematics, menu planning, food science, health and safety procedures, food identification and purchasing, computer usage, and restaurant design.

Electrical Technology

This two year program includes in-depth instruction and hands on experience with, but not limited to: reading blueprints, estimating time and materials, reading schematic diagrams, calculating branch circuit ampacity, lighting load convenience receptacles, dedicated appliances, ground fault protection, box fill, conduit, service entrance, and alternate power sources.

Graphic Arts

In this two-year program, students learn theory followed by laboratory work using current industry specifications and standards. A knowledge base is developed through units in office systems, estimating, imaging, page assembly, prepress, presswork, binding and finishing, quality control, and customer service.

Medical / Introduction to Health Occupations

This two-year Medical/ Introduction to Health Occupations program provides students with entry-level skills in both the clinical and the administrative areas of medicine.

Police Science/ Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

This two-year course is designed for students interested in careers in Public Safety, such as, Police, Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Management and Fire. The course will cover criminal law, criminal procedure law, search, seizure, and arrest, surveillance, crime scene investigation, forensics, and disorder control.

Sports, Fitness and Health Services

This two-year course provides students with instruction in fitness training, nutrition, physical therapy, sports medicine, rehabilitation, exercise physiology, sports/business management and coaching.

S.T.E.P.S. (Skills To Educate A Productive Society)

This course is designed for students with special needs to be introduced to career and technical fields.
