Attention all Sophomores - HOBY Youth Leadership Seminar
The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership organization is looking for an outstanding tenth grade ambassador to represent MacArthur High School at the HOBY Youth Leadership Seminar this spring. HOBY is looking for one 10
th grade student from MacArthur who is involved in extracurricular activities, has performed community service, and exhibits leadership qualities. All interested applicants should pick up an application in Guidance, and hand in it by Friday, November 16
th.
Island Drafting
Island Drafting and Technical Institute is offering $1,500 awards to two students from MacArthur High School. These awards can be applied toward the daytime Associate Degree Program in Computer Aided Drafting and Design or Electronic and Computer Service Technology. See Mr. Conaghan in the Guidance Office if you would like to be nominated.
AXA ACHEIVEMENT
AXA Achievement Scholarship Program is offering 52 students, one from each state, $10,000 scholarships. Applicants must demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in an activity in school, the community, or the workplace and be recommended by an adult professional. Applications must be postmarked by December 15.

AYN RAND ESSAY CONTEST

Mac Pac Scholarship
Two MacArthur Senior Football players will each be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to help further their education. The MacPac committee will select the recipients based upon the applicants' fulfillment of the scholarship requirements and their demonstration of leadership, compassion, dedication and loyalty.
Applicants must have at least an 80 academic average. They should be involved in school and community activities, be respected by teachers and peers, and have demonstrated school spirit while at MacArthur H.S.
All senior football players interested in applying for this scholarship should pick up an application in the Guidance office. Applications must be completed and returned to the Guidance office no later than November 15, 2007.
Principal's Leadership Award
The National Association of Secondary School Principals and Herff Jones, Inc. are sponsoring a Principal's Leadership Award. The program will award dozens of scholarships totaling $125,000. Seniors must be in the top 20% of their class and demonstrate leadership. As only one senior per school may be nominated, please return completed applications to guidance by November 23rd.
SAE Engineering Scholarships
Students interested in majoring in Engineering should visit

st, 2007. Make sure you give your Guidance Counselor enough time to fill out the Counselor Certification section.
Guidance has a few paper applications available on a first come, first serve basis.
CO-OP Scholarship
Students who are planning to attend Cooperative Education Programs at any of the following institutions can apply for the National Co-op Scholarship Program. 185 scholarships will be awarded for $6,000 each for a total renewable value of $4,500,000:

- Northeastern University
- Wentworth Institute of Technology
- C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University
- Rochester Institute of Technology
- Johnson & Wales University
- University of Cincinnati
- University of Toledo
- Pace University
Students must have a GPA of 3.5 or a B+ (85/100) or higher. Applications must be postmarked by February 15, 2008.

Commerce Bank merican Dream Scholarships
The American Dream Scholarship, sponsored by Commerce Bank, will provide 225 annual scholarships to graduating seniors.
The $1,000 scholarships are one-time awards for graduating seniors enrolled in full-time programs at accredited two or four year colleges, universities or vocational-technical schools.
Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 (85/100) GPA and demonstrate involvement in community service activities, volunteerism, school activities and/or employment responsibilities.

Nassau County American Legion
National High School Oratorical Contest
The Nassau County American Legion is sponsoring their annual Oratorical Contest. The subject used for the prepared speech in the oratorical contest must be on some phase of the Constitution of the United States.
The scholarships range from $1,000 at the local level to $18,000 at the national level.
To enter the contest, students must submit an application by December 21st. Applications are available in Guidance.
Dorothea Deitz Memorial Scholarship
The Women in Physical Education in New York State is offering the Dorothea Deitz Memorial Scholarship to provide financial assistance to selected
female students planning to major in
Physical Education, Teacher Education. Three scholarships between $4,500 and $6,500 will be awarded. In addition, a $500 grant will be awarded to one person in each county. These scholarships are based on character, academic achievement, physical education competence, participation in athletics, qualities of leadership, and financial need. The deadline is
March 1, 2008. Please see the DDMS brochure in the scholarship draw for information on how to obtain an application.
Burger King Scholars program
Burger King is awarding approximately 700 scholarships of $1,000.00 each to graduating seniors.
To qualify students must:
Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 (75/100)
Work an average of 15 hrs/week
Demonstrate participation in community service and/or co-curricular activities
Demonstrate financial need
Plan to enroll in an accredited two or four year college, university, or vocational-technical school by Fall 2008.

McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship
The McKelvey Foundation is offering 100 scholarships of $40,000 who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating their own businesses while in high school.
To Qualify:
Own your own business (non-profits accepted)
Have at least one paid employee.
Graduate high school in 2008
Go to any 4-year college within the 50 states.

The Long Island 2 Day Walk To Fight Breast Cancer Scholarship
The Long Island 2 Day Walk To Fight Breast Cancer is designed to provide a one-time award of $2,500 to a high school senior who resides with a parent, guardian, or relative who is a survivor or victim of breast cancer. Six students from Nassau and Suffolk Counties will each be awarded a $2,500 Scholarship based on the following criteria.

Completed, on-time application and personal statement
One letter of recommendation
Copy of official high school transcript
Proof of acceptance in an education program for the 2008-2009 academic year
