At its Nov. 14 meeting, the Levittown Public School's Board of Education honored members of Lee Road School's new Digital Media Club. The six inaugural members of the club, along with advisers Eileen Vogel and Arlene Zabatta, spoke about the highlights of the club, why it was started, and how it has been assisting students in honing their skills.
In Jan. 2018, after seeing how successful the club was in another district, the advisers recruited then-fourth-grade reporters. The students started brainstorming ideas, interviewing guests for stories, and publishing their finished works on the school's webpage. The entire process has reinforced important speaking, listening, and teamwork skills for students, as well as incorporating technology use and an awareness of mindfulness practices.
Current students, Ben Arreaga, Alex Cichon, Aidan Duffy, Chloe Iannacone, Claire Loughnane and Steve Mavrommatis will be selecting and training a new set of reporters in January to take on their role after they move-on to middle school in June. At the meeting, the group also shared a presentation of their work with the Board and administration.
