SkillsUSAmembers from Gerald R. Claps Career and Technical Center hosted the school's first carnival-themed Heads and Toes Valentine's Day fundraiser to give back to those in need on Feb. 14. The organization raised more than $250 and collected 215 donated items consisting of warm socks, hats and gloves to be donated to a shelter in the nearby area.
Coordinated by SkillsUSA advisors Kristina Cuomo and Jennifer Pernick, admission to the event was open to all GC Tech students and included fun games and activities for the students to enjoy.
To enter the event, each student was encouraged to donate a warm winter item such as a new hat, socks and gloves. Donated items were worth three tickets to go towards the stations. Students could also buy tickets to participate in each station for a dollar. Stations included basketball, KanJam, cornhole, hockey shot, a photo booth and table pong.
The stations were situated around the gymnasium and facilitated by GC Tech teaching assistants and aided by the SkillsUSA officers. Students could also purchase snacks and water to go towards the cause.
