Families, students, board members and central and building administrators gathered at Levittown Memorial Education Center for an evening of delicious food and fun during Levittown's Gerald R. Claps Career and Technical Center's SkillsUSA Fundraiser Dinner on Jan. 10. SkillsUSA, an extracurricular club at GC Tech, is a national organization, serving students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations. The program also hosts local and national competitions in which students demonstrate occupational and leadership skills.
The Levittown chapter of SkillsUSA, advised by Kristina Cuomo and
Jennifer Pernick, encouraged the community to attend the special event to support the SkillsUSA Student Scholarship Fund. Dinner was prepared and served by GC Tech's culinary arts students, led by instructor Lauren Reganato and respective culinary arts staff members. Attendees enjoyed salad, pasta with meatballs and a delicious dessert. Ms. Cuomo introduced the 2018-2019 SkillsUSA executive board which included seniors President Makayla Geoghegan, Vice President Gisselle Lugo, secretary Ashley Bailey, treasurer Rita Rogers, reporter Ruby Hogan, parliamentarian Zachary Martin and club adviser Ryan Kushner.
The officers spoke during the event about SkillsUSA while a slideshow played. Attendees were encouraged to enter a raffle to win one of three big baskets and Makayla and Gisselle facilitated a scavenger hunt game which allowed attendees to win extra prizes during the evening.
