Cosmetology students enrolled at Levittown's Gerald R. Claps Career and Technical Center received a closer look into furthering their education and pursuing a career in the beauty industry during a visit from the Long Island Nail Skin & Hair Institute, an accredited beauty school, on Dec. 12. The GC Tech students heard from Dana Persico, founder and chief executive officer of the Institute, Christine Glaser, director of admissions, and current Long Island Nail Skin & Hair Institute students Kayla McKeon and Brooke Weissman.
Persico and Glaser spoke about how they both got their start in the cosmetology industry, the need for cosmologists, offered professional advice and discussed some of the Long Island Nail Skin & Hair Institute's courses. They also encouraged the students to network and form connections in the industry while praising the students for building a strong foundation by being a part of the GC Tech program.
"You all are really in a fantastic environment and you are really going to do incredible things, if it's what you want," said Persico. "Your passion is going to drive what you gain here."
McKeon and Weissman shared their experiences in the Long Island Nail Skin & Hair Institute, their backgrounds and future career goals. They invited two GC Tech students up to the front of the room where they demonstrated makeup techniques and asked the students questions. At the conclusion of the visit, each GC Tech cosmetology student received a goodie bag courtesy of the Long Island Nail Skin & Hair Institute.
