Second Graders Create Fossils at Gardiners Ave.
Ms. Manzi's class really digs fossils! After the conclusion of their science unit all about animals, and after becoming paleontologists by excavating the "fossil" chips out of chocolate chip cookies, the second grade class was able to create fossils of their own. By using modeling clay, various seashells, and Elmer's glue, the students discovered how imprint and cast fossils are formed. First, they pressed their chosen shell into the clay. Then they filled the imprint with glue and let it dry over the weekend. When the students returned on Monday, they were excited to find that their glue had hardened in the shape of the imprint they made.
