Winter Haikus at Gardiners Ave.
During the month of January, our class explored the form of Japanese poetry, known as "haiku." They learned that a haiku is a poem about nature. It has three lines consisting of 5 syllables, 7 syllables, and 5 syllables. The students enjoyed brainstorming words and phrases associated with winter. Mrs. Bartlein and I modeled a winter haiku for the class. Then the children practiced writing their own haiku, and later chose someto publish.
