Gardiners Ave. Students Visit the Outdoor Learning Center
The Second Grade students at Gardiner's Avenue have been off to a great start! We went on our first trip to the Outdoor Learning Center at Levittown Memorial. The Outdoor Learning Center includes a pond, greenhouse, gardens and an outdoor lab.
We began our inquiry a few weeks before inside our classrooms by growing, observing and comparing harvest corn to edible corn. Our question was to determine how water and sunlight affected the growth of our corn specimens.
When we arrived at the lab, Mrs. Mills had several stations set up where the children observed many different specimens of soaked corn which were grown in different environments. The students had to discuss, observe, and record a statement about their findings.
It is such a pleasure to watch the children engage in lifelong learning in such a wonderful environment.
