Math Olympiads at Gardiners Ave.
Several students from Gardiners Avenue Elementary School were among the nearly 150,000 students worldwide to participate this year in the Math Olympiad program. They participated in a series of five monthly contests of 5 problems each. The students practiced weekly being taught to solve unusual/difficult problems and to think creatively. For their participation and achievements, the students were recognized with various certificates and awards.
Six of the sixteen mathletes at Gardiners Avenue Elementary won national awards for excellence within our division for grades 4-6. This extraordinary group includes the following students: 5th graders - Benjamin Campbell, Emily Cavanaugh, Andrew Panganiban, and James Perry; and 4th graders - Jacklyn Biondo and Antonio Vargas. All sixteen of our mathletes responded to the challenge with eagerness and enthusiasm!
