DAHS Students Attend Summer Leadership Conference in Medicine
Division Avenue students Michael Adams, Nicole Devaney, and Jillian Martinson spent 9 days attending summer conferences and seminars held at St. Johns University. The program, Envision, also offers the students an opportunity to earn college credit through George Mason University. Envision describes their program as:
Future doctors & health care practitioners will enjoy an extraordinary opportunity to discover their passions through hands-on medical experience at National Youth LeadershipForum Medicine. Over nine amazing days on the campus location of your choice, you will experience the collegiate lifestyle first-hand, learn from doctors and participate in interactive curriculum led by advisors, visit a top medical school, test your medical knowledge during Clinical Skills Rotations, and explore professional opportunities in the ever-expanding fields of medicine and health care among fellow high school students.
Michael Adams described the experience, "My favorite part of the conference was when we toured other medical schools such as Rutgers Medical School, and spoke with doctors and students about their experiences and what I should expect for the future."
Nicole Devaney reflected, "It was fun spending time with people who shared interest in the same thing, medicine. Our leaders provided us with a lot of knowledge to help us in our future in the medical field."
Jillian Martinson shared, "My favorite part of the conference was when a resident came to talk to us about her experience as a OBGYN."
