Special Education

The Levittown School District operates one of the most comprehensive special education programs in New York State serving the needs of over 1000 children with disabilities.

Many special education classes are housed within district school buildings, which allows our students full access to all services and facilities. When appropriate, a student may require services from BOCES or an out-of-district program.

Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE)
Pursuant to PL 99-457 and Section 4410 of the Educational Law, school districts are responsible for serving 3 and 4 year old children with disabilities. If you suspect that your youngster has a disability or are referred by your doctor or a preschool professional, please call 520-8300 ext. 598.

Committee on Special Education (CSE)
The Committee on Special Education is responsible for evaluating and determining eligibility for all students referred to it to determine need for special education services. In addition, annual reviews are held for all students who are receiving special education services. The Committee on Special Education prepares the Individualized Education Programs for each student. If you suspect that your school age child has a disability, please contact the building psychologist to discuss the need for a referral.

Articulation Improvement Services
The Levittown School District provides articulation improvement services to students who are not classified and have at least three speech sounds that are misarticulated but should be correctly pronounced for the child’s age. In addition, the child should not be able to imitate the sound correctly and it must be negatively impacting their education.
