Engineers at Abbey Lane
The kindergarteners in room 403 at Abbey Lane are engineers! They read the story of The Three Little Pigs and the big, bad wolf, and it sounded like two of the pigs needed the help of some engineers. The problem that the kindergarten engineers had to solve was: How can we design a house that will stay up when the big, bad wolf tries to blow it down? Under the guidance of Ms. Seo and Mrs. McGrath, the kindergarten engineers had to collaborate with their group members on a design and build houses out of different materials?"some including popsicle sticks, plastic cups, modeling clay, tape, toothpicks, and aluminum foil. The students showed great team work and tested their models as they built their prototypes to make sure the houses would withstand the "huff and puff" of the wolf. On the final day of this STEAM activity, the big, bad wolf came to room 403 disguised as a fan! The "wolf" tried its best to blow down the houses, but all the houses survived! The class discussed what made their houses so strong, and how different parts of a house play important roles in keeping the house standing. As for the wolf, it went back in the closet with hopes to return when the weather is warmer.
